For sale here is the most rare camera in my collection, and perhaps one of the most rare on Ebay right now. This is a Rollekonter I TLR, which was a Japanese copy of the Rolleiflex and Rolleicord of the period. Only 2 other known surviving examples are left of the first model from my research. You can tell this is the first model because the name plate has Rollekonter as one word (Without stating “made in Tokyo” to deceive buyers into thinking this was a German camera, where as the model II ads “made in Tokyo”). The shutter even states “compur” however it is just a copy. The idea behind this camera was to fill in the gap left when Rolleiflex production stopped during WWII. It was made to appeal to international buyers and even the lens name “Hitonar” is derived from “Hitler.”
The camera is in un-restored condition. There was a roll of film inside when I got it and I finished it, and developed the film with both mine and the previous owners photos which appeared to be from the 50’s in Japan. The shutter speeds sound accurate and the lens is clean. The focus is a bit stiff, and the advance is very stiff. If you’re buying this camera then it is most likely to make it part of your collection than to shoot with, so it shouldn’t matter. Like I said, form my research only 2 other known examples exist of the first model with the original name plate.
